Arizona PG Justin Coleman out of starting lineup vs. Colorado
Arizona Wildcats point guard Justin Coleman is out of the starting lineup for Thursday’s Pac-12 opener against Colorado due to what is thought to be a shoulder injury he suffered in practice this week.
Brandon Williams will start in Coleman’s place. The freshman is averaging a team-best 3.8 assists per game, with a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Redshirt junior Dylan Smith is starting in Williams’ usual two-guard spot. Coleman is in uniform and went through pregame warmups as usual, so it will be interesting to see what kind of role he has, if he has one at all.
The Samford graduate transfer is averaging 10.1 points and 3.2 assists per game, leading Arizona in 3-point percentage (.419).
Aside from him and Williams, the Wildcats lack shot-creators, which could hinder an offense that already ranks 10th in the Pac-12. Emmanuel Akot, third on the team in assists, has only recorded 12 this season.
Gettings is here
Cornell transfer Stone Gettings is making his first appearance in McKale Center on Thursday, joining his new teammates on the bench.
As we wrote earlier in the week, the senior forward arrived at the UA at the semester break, and has been cleared to practice with the Wildcats, but will not debut until the 2019-20 season.
