Arizona PG Justin Coleman named to Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team

It was a heck of a week for the senior point guard

There weren’t many bright spots in the Arizona Wildcats’ 1-2 trip to Maui, but Justin Coleman was certainly one of them.

The senior point guard was one of six players named to the Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team, the others being Gonzaga’s Rui Hachimura, Duke’s Tre Jones, Gonzaga’s Zach Norvell Jr., Auburn’s Jared Harper, and Duke’s RJ Barrett.

Coleman averaged 20.7 points and 3 assists per game on 57 percent shooting, proving to be Arizona’s best and most reliable player in Hawaii.

The Samford graduate transfer was deadly accurate from 3, going 14 for 24 from beyond the arc. Perhaps best of all, Coleman showed the kind of competitive fire Arizona fans have been dying to see from its point guard for a long while.

Coleman dropped 18 points in the win over Iowa State, including 15 in the second half, scoring nine points in a row at one point to propel the Wildcats to victory.

He followed that up with a career-tying 28 points in the loss to No. 3 Gonzaga, who went on to beat No. 1 Duke in the championship game.

Coleman then ended the tournament with 16 points and five assists in a loss to Auburn.

“He was outstanding,” said Arizona coach Sean Miller. “If he didn’t play the way he played, I’m not sure where we would have been in any of the three games. His second half against Iowa State and just watching him play for 40 minutes, that’s something that I think gives us a lot of confidence moving forward, because he did it against the best.”
