Arizona DT PJ Johnson out vs. Houston

The Wildcats will be thinner along the defensive line vs. the Cougars

The beef is in the freezer.

Arizona Wildcats starting defensive tackle PJ Johnson is in a walking boot, and will not play against the Houston Cougars on Saturday.

According to this here depth chart, expect fellow 300-pounder Finton Connolly to start in his place.

While Johnson did not record any stats against BYU last week, he still provides much-needed size — aka beef — up front for the Wildcats, who aren’t exactly loaded along the defensive line.

And depth figures to be crucial in the hot, humid weather Arizona has to battle through Saturday.

It also appears Jace Whittaker will not start, either. The senior cornerback missed last week’s game with an undisclosed injury but head coach Kevin Sumlin said Monday that Whittaker would “probably be back” this week.

Whittaker is dressed, though, so maybe he will be able to contribute in some fashion. Redshirt freshman Xavier Bell is on track to start at Spur with Tristan Cooper out with an injury he suffered last week. Scottie Young Jr., who has been reinstated after being suspended for the opener, could see some action there, too.
