Arizona finishes 51st in Learfield Directors’ Cup standings

It’s the school’s worst finish ever

Between an FBI investigation, several coaching changes, and other legal issues, it was a tumultuous year for the University of Arizona athletic department.

It was also the worst year the UA has ever had on the field, court, etc.

Arizona finished 51st in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, which is its lowest finish ever. The competition averages out results over all sports and ranks schools from top to bottom. The full standings can be found here.

Arizona finished ninth in the Pac-12, only ahead of Utah, Oregon State, and Washington State. UA’s best sports were women’s golf, softball, women’s soccer, swimming and diving, and men’s basketball.

Arizona finished 42nd in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings in 2016-17, which was its worst finish at the time.

Stanford won the Learfield Directors’ Cup for the 24th straight year. UCLA and USC finished second and fourth, respectively.
