CBS projects Arizona will miss NCAA Tournament in 2018-19
ESPN projects Arizona as a No. 10 seed
One source of pride for the Arizona Wildcats is that they rarely miss the NCAA Tournament.
The UA has failed to make the Big Dance just twice since 1984 — 2009-10 and 2011-12.
Since those two blips, Arizona hasn’t even come close to missing the tournament. The 2018-19 season could change that, as a revamped — but perhaps less talented — roster will make for an interesting year in the desert.
Jerry Palm of CBS doesn’t think it will be a particularly good one. In his way-too-early preseason bracketology, Palm projects the Wildcats as one of the first four teams out of the NCAA Tournament.
While Palm did not provide an explanation, other experts see Arizona in a similar light.
Andy Katz of NCAA.com left the Wildcats out of his preseason Power 36, and ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projects them to be a No. 10 seed.
Maybe these low expectations will be a nice change for Arizona, but it’s clear it will have plenty to prove this season.
Palm, by the way, has Oregon as a No. 4 seed, UCLA as a No. 5 seed, USC as a No. 8 seed, and Washington as a No. 10 seed.
