8 Arizona recruits to watch on National Signing Day

Here are some names to know for Wednesday

It’s that time of year. National Signing Day.

There is always a twist or two when it comes to the Arizona Wildcats, and I’d expect a couple this year as well.

Before we get to Wednesday’s deadline, here is a list of players to keep an eye out for.

Jamarye Joiner, QB

One of the first things Kevin Sumlin did after taking over as Arizona’s head coach was visit Joiner, the Cienega quarterback. Shortly after, Joiner announced he was shutting down his recruitment, thus becoming “110 percent” committed to the Wildcats.

At one point, it looked like Joiner could head elsewhere, but Sumlin ensured that won’t be happening. He’s going to be a Wildcat.

Adam Plant, DE

This is another player I would be shocked if he went anywhere else. I believe Plant will challenge for immediate playing time.

Jaden Mitchell, WR

Mitchell is still committed to the ‘Cats and is slotted to come in as a grey shirt as part of the 2019 class.

Martell Irby, RB

Moving to the other side of the spectrum, I would be surprised if Irby signs with Arizona. He was supposed to sign with Arizona back in December, but once UCLA came knocking, all bets were off. He has since gone dark and since the offer I’ve felt that he is Westwood-bound. Sumlin has also backed off so it’s safe to say he will sign with the Bruins on Wednesday.

Armani Adams, S

As far as I’m concerned the Florida-based defensive back is no longer committed to Arizona. He does not have “Arizona commit” in his Twitter bio like he used to and it has been stated a few times that the old regime pulled his scholarship. I’m not sure how true all of that is. Nonetheless, I expect Adams to make things official with FAU on Wednesday.

Jeremiah Martin, DE

Moving on to uncommitted prospects, we find the 4-star weakside defensive end. Sumlin and the new staff were able to get him on campus for a quick and surprising official visit out to Tucson before his trip to Seattle. I believe it was just a little too late and Martin will be heading either to Oklahoma or Texas A&M.

Dayven Coleman, S/OLB

The Texas-based defensive athlete is announcing his commitment on Tuesday and it’s between Arizona, Kansas State, and Illinois. From what I understand the staff has made him a priority. Coleman has great versatility and has the ability to play safety, nickelback, or linebacker.

Kevin Doyle, QB

The high 3-star pro-style quarterback was committed to Michigan since September but backed off his pledge Sunday. On Monday morning he reported an offer from Arizona and Colorado State, but I believe that the ‘Cats have been recruiting him longer than that. He will decide on Wednesday and it’s between the ‘Cats and Rams. I like UA’s chances here.
