Arizona football: Scottie Young Jr. participating in all team activities following arrest for domestic violence

Rich Rodriguez said Arizona has “consulted with all the appropriate authorities”

Despite being arrested Wednesday for his involvement in a domestic violence incident, Arizona Wildcats safety Scottie Young Jr. is participating in all team activities, head coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday at his weekly presser.

“We’ve consulted with all the appropriate authorities, including the Dean of Students,” Rodriguez explained of Young’s status.

UAPD documents released Thursday say Young is facing one charge of misdemeanor assault/knowingly causing injury.

The police report detailing the incident can be found here.

While the accuser and other witnesses had a much different story than Young, Young admitted to grabbing his girlfriend’s wrist and spitting on her, according to the report.

Last year, when former UA running back Orlando Bradford was dismissed from the team for his role in a domestic violence incident, Rodriguez said this:

“We have a rule. You put your hands on a woman, you’re done," he said. "That’s it. If you did it, if you put your hands on a woman in any way, shape or form, you’re done. Next.”

But Rodriguez said Young’s situation is “different.” (Bradford was recently sentenced to 2-8 years in prison and faced up to 15 charges, 10 of which were felonies).

“Every situation with all of our players is evaluated individually,” he said.

One reporter asked Rodriguez if Young has faced any sort of punishment, including internal punishment by the football program.

His answer?

“I think I’ve commented enough about Scottie Young,” Rodriguez said. “I’m happy to talk about Colorado.”

Young is still listed as Arizona’s starter at free safety, and has started in every game for the Wildcats this season.

The San Diego, Calif. native has 20 tackles, including 1.5 for loss in four games. Pro Football Focus recently rated Young as the fifth-best freshman in college football.
