Arizona football recruiting: 3-star OL Donovan Laie commits to Wildcats
‘Cats add a much-needed lineman to their class
The Arizona Wildcats received some much-needed good news on the recruiting front Monday, picking up a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Donovan Laie.
The Oceanside High School (Oceanside, Calif.) product is the No. 1,245 prospect in his class and No. 111 offensive tackle, per 247Sports.

Last week, both UA head coach Rich Rodriguez and defensive coordinator Marcel Yates emphasized recruiting in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Laie is just Arizona’s second offensive lineman commit in this class — the other being Amphi offensive tackle David Watson.
Laie is a big, physical specimen, measuring 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds. Another important factor here is Laie’s Polynesian heritage.
Back in June, I wrote about Arizona’s staff taking steps to re-establish the Polynesian Pipeline in Tucson. Spearheaded by defensive grad assistant Davy Gnodle, George Malaulu, and the AIGA Foundation, the annual Rich Rodriguez Polynesian Showcase camp was created and took place in early June. It was such a hit that the Foundation will make its way back down to Tucson for another camp in 2018.
Laie moves surprisingly well his size. His footwork is pretty solid but could use a little work. It is clear he uses his power and size to his advantage.
Gnodle and co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Rod Smith led the charge on Laie. This makes the third San Diego-area commit for Arizona in the last two weeks.
Laie is the 16th member of UA’s 2018 class. Rodriguez has said that Arizona plans to sign 18 players when all is said and done.
Laie’s highlights are below.
