Utah vs. Arizona: Wildcats players of the game vs. the Utes

Taking a look at the UA players that stood out Friday night

The Arizona Wildcats dropped a tough one to the Utah Utes on Friday to open Pac-12 play, losing 30-24 as their comeback bid fell short.

Arizona (2-2) committed five turnovers and had several other costly mistakes, but not everything was bad from that game.

Here’s a look at Arizona players who stood out in the defeat.

Offense

Tony Ellison, WR: 6 rec, 78 yds, 1 TD

Ellison continues to show that he is a reliable option along the outside for the ‘Cats. He quietly had himself a solid game until he caught a 30-yard touchdown pass, making some noise.

He has been hyped up during camp the past three seasons, and is finally healthy and making his presence felt.

Bryce Wolma, TE: 4 rec, 29 yds, 0 TD

Wolma is now a major part of Arizona’s offense. He has put the tight end position at the forefront and shows what the position can do in this offense.

The true freshman nabbed a couple of really important catches that kept drive going and the defense on the sidelines resting. He also had some really good blocks for whoever was running the football.

Wolma leads Arizona in receptions this season (15).

Defense

Tony Fields II, LB: 6 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1.0 sack

Fields, to put it simply, is a beast. Anytime he makes a play, Cleveland Brown’s “Oh that’s nasty” voice comes into my head. He is amazingly aggressive and showed plenty of that aggression against Utah. He was in the backfield either getting pressure or chasing down the quarterback on numerous occasions. He has earned his recognition.

Kylan Wilborn, STUD: 5 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery

Speaking of aggression, another freshman, stud linebacker Kylan Wilborn is a force off the edge.

He was all over the field on Friday night and did another solid job. His best play of the night was slamming into Zack Moss and stripping the ball out of his hands.

Wilborn has three tackles for loss, and has forced two fumbles this season.

Special Teams

Jake Glatting, P: 2 punts, 81 yds, long of 49 yards

The Arizona kicking game (or special teams has a whole) was nothing to write home about.

Glatting, however, did have a 49 yard punt.

The only blemish was Boobie Hobbs’ 48-yard punt return, which was made possible by some missed tackles and great blocking by Utah.

Arizona’s other specialists struggled. Lucas Havrisik and Josh Pollack each had a field goal blocked, and Havrisik had a kickoff sail out of rebounds, a rare off-moment for the true freshman.
