Scooby Wright III signed to Arizona Cardinals’ 53-man roster, per report

Scooby is back on an active roster

The Arizona Cardinals have signed Scooby Wright III to their 53-man roster, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The former Arizona Wildcats linebacker spent the preseason with the Cardinals, where he tallied 18 tackles and forced a fumble in five games, including two starts.

Wright was cut by the Cardinals last week and signed with their practice squad, but starting $LB Deone Bucannon re-injured his ankle in practice this week, opening a spot for Wright on the active roster.

Wright, a seventh-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, has appeared in three career NFL games, all with Arizona.

The Browns waived the 23-year-old last September and he signed with Arizona’s practice squad shortly after. Later in the season he was activated and used on special teams.

Wright, a former two-star recruit, spent three seasons at Arizona. As a sophomore in 2014, he was a unanimous All-American, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and First-team All-Pac-12.

He also took home several other accolades including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award, and the Jack Lambert Award.

The Cardinals open their season on the road against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at 10 a.m. MST.
