NBA free agency: Andre Iguodala to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors

Iggy is staying in the Bay Area — and he broke the news himself

Andre Iguodala is staying in the Bay Area.

The former Arizona Wildcat agreed to a new deal with the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, the first day of NBA free agency.

Iguodala broke the news himself:

Reports say the contract will pay him $48 million over the next three seasons, keeping him in a Warriors uniform until the end of the 2019-20 season.

Iguodala’s ability to defend multiple positions, be a secondary playmaker, and hit the occasional 3-ball has been invaluable for Steve Kerr and the Warriors, as they’ve won two titles in the last three seasons.

Iguodala, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, averaged 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.0 steals this past season. He shot a career-high 52.8 percent from the field, and 36.2 percent from 3.

The 33-year-old met with the Houston Rockets to kick off free agency and received a contract offer, but opted to remain with the team he’s spent the last four seasons with.

Iguodala originally signed with the Warriors in 2013 for four years, $48 million. He will be 36 years old when he next hits the free agent market.

Iguodala was drafted ninth overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2004 after two seasons at Arizona.
