Arizona baseball: Wildcats hang tight in national rankings before Pac-12 play

A big weekend in SoCal coming up

In a week that saw a blowout loss at Texas Tech and then an offensive explosion at home for three days against Hartford, the Arizona Wildcats saw little to no movement in all of the national polls.

Here’s a look at where Arizona stands now:

This week, the Wildcats are spending Spring Break in Southern California. First up is Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, followed up with a three-game series against the UCLA Bruins to open Pac-12 play.

Fullerton is ranked near Arizona in just about all of the human polls. The Titans are 9-5 this year, but went 4-1 last week including two big offensive outputs at ASU. The most impressive thing about CSF’s season to date is a series win over Stanford to start the year, dropping the finale in 11 innings.

UCLA has not impressed this year, not even receiving votes in the polls that release that info. They have the worst record among Pac-12 teams this year, going just 6-8. It’s not like they’ve played an overly though schedule either, with Warren Nolan ranking it 59th at this point and time. Right now, UCLA is projected to go 7-20 in conference play. By contrast, Arizona is projected to go 27-3.

Wednesday’s game is certainly big for RPI implications, and then a series win to start the Pac-12 schedule is paramount for this team looking to live up to some of the early season hype they’re getting.

Arizona and Fullerton are scheduled to start at 6 PM PT on Wednesday. You should be able to stream it here.
