Arizona basketball recruiting: Top point guard Trevon Duval will visit Tucson for GameDay showdown vs. UCLA

He couldn’t have picked a better game to attend.

We had been under the assumption top-ranked 2017 point guard Trevon Duval would be visiting Tucson and the University of Arizona in late February, but it’s now official.

Duval, in his USA Today blog, wrote that he will be attending the top-five match up and ESPN GameDay showdown between the UCLA Bruins and Arizona Wildcats this Saturday.

“I go to Arizona this weekend then I’ll be at Baylor and I have to set a date for the Seton Hall visit,” the 6-foot-3 guard writes.

As you can see in his 247Sports Crystal Ball, Duke appears to be the leader though he said in the blog that both of his prior visits, Kansas and Duke, were 10/10.

For Arizona, getting Duval on campus is an obvious fantastic first step in turning the tables. Sean Miller and his staff have pulled some pretty big coups over the last seven years to surely make Duke, Kansas, Baylor, and Seton Hall nervous. If there was ever an opportunity to convince someone to commit, it’d be when the eyes of nearly every college basketball fan will be fixated on Tucson, Arizona.

However, we likely won’t know the destination for at least another 5-7 weeks (otherwise known as April’s national signing period) the guard says on his estimated timetable.

“After that, I’m planning to take some time and have a long talk with my parents, think about it, see what other people do and see how March Madness goes then I’ll decide from there.”

Arizona has four signees and at least four scholarships open (Talbott Denny, open slot from Terrance Ferguson, Ray Smith, and Kadeem Allen) and this isn’t even with people leaving for the NBA.

So, theoretically, there is likely room for both Brian Bowen and Duval. It isn’t a likely scenario from what I’m hearing and reading, but that could change come Monday.
