Arizona football recruiting: Wildcat commits continue to pick up prestigious offers
The staff will be making a big push to keep their remaining class
We’re just under a month away from National Signing Day and while the Arizona Wildcats will be putting the finishing touches on their class, the staff will have to put in some work to keep some of their current commits for just a few more weeks.
Arizona currently has 25 commitments, with five early enrollees including Jessie Britt (2016 greyshirt), Braxton Burmeister, Jose Ramirez, Sione Taufahema, and Nathan Tilford. The class is currently ranked No. 30 in the nation, fourth in the Pac-12.
Austin Faoliu picking up powerhouse offers
Once just a two-star recruit, Austin Faoliu committed to Arizona just days after picking up his offer. Now he’s suddenly capturing the attention of Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, and Texas through the midst of the dead period. Washington State has continued to be a threat as well. For now, I would be shocked if Faoliu signs with Arizona in just a few weeks.
Tony Wallace picks up Oregon, USC offers
Another two-star prospect who acted quickly on their offer, Wallace has since received scholarship offers to Oregon and USC. He had been waiting on an Arizona offer for quite some time, and had told me after his commitment to Arizona that he feels USC is very close to offering.
I find it odd that he committed to Arizona, knowing that USC was close to offering, although you can’t bank on an offer coming and miss out on your spot if you don’t commit. But if USC lands 5-star corner Darnay Holmes, that could change some things, potentially making Oregon an even more intriguing option for Wallace.
He will visit Tucson on January 14, followed by USC on Jan 21. This is one that is certainly a decommitment to watch out for.

Jalen Harris adds Notre Dame, Washington to list
Jalen Harris, the son of Desert Swarm member Sean Harris, was advised by his father to explore some options. Those options included Colorado, Illinois, and Louisville.
Harris just picked up an offer from Washington one day after Christmas and Notre Dame as we approach the tail end of the dead period. However, last I heard, Harris was still firm on his pledge to Arizona.
Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Notre Dame #GoIrish ☘️ http://pic.twitter.com/6eZCNtMq4W

Braxton Burmeister picks up late Oregon offer
This was something that I was warned about a few weeks ago. With the hire of Willie Taggart, dozens of new offers went out. Taggart was not a fan of the quarterbacks on the Ducks’ roster and wanted to be able to have his own guy.
At the top of the list was Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa, and then Braxton Burmeister. Akili Smith, former Duck and Burmeister’s quarterback coach, had apparently been making quite a push for Burmeister to go to Oregon.
Burmeister finally received an offer from Taggart, but just way too late in the process as an early enrollee. If anything, I believe Oregon will secure a commitment from three-star San Jose commit Kaymen Cureton, who will be visiting Oregon on January 21.
Oregon has offered 2017 LJCD QB Braxton Burmeister, an early enrollee, who is scheduled to move in at Arizona later this week.

4-star quarterback Jamarye Joiner open to other offers
Jamarye Joiner was offered by Arizona after the first game of his junior season at Cienega. When I spoke to him shortly after, he said he was going to wait until after his senior year to commit. That obviously didn’t happen, as he gave a verbal pledge to U of A shortly thereafter.
Typically, quarterbacks are the first to commit to a class to secure their spot. While Joiner wants to keep his spot at Arizona, he’ll wisely entertain other offers, noting TCU, Texas A&M, and Oregon as his dream schools.
