Arizona football recruiting: Rhett Rodriguez to State Championship, Brian Casteel with four touchdowns

Arizona commits still performing deep in playoffs

There are only so many Arizona Wildcat commits left in the playoffs as we approach championship weekend for a lot of schools. Still, there’s a lot of talent that Arizona has remaining in the playoffs, both on offense and defense.

Drew Dixon will be playing Show Low on Saturday night, with Tony Fields and Edgar Burrola taking on Spring Creek for the 3A Nevada State Championship. Burrola has been out with a shoulder injury. But here’s a look at how the remaining commits did this weekend.

Rhett Rodriguez leads Catalina Foothills to first-ever State Championship game

Scott Young’s game sealing interception

With 2:35 remaining, up 14-0, Scott Young sealed the game for Helix. The No. 2 seed Helix Scotties will play 3-seed Ranch Bernardo to advance to the state championship.

Greg Johnson and Hawkins easing through playoffs

Many feel that Hawkins is the clear cut team to win state. Through the first two playoff games, Hawkins has outscored opponents 97-10. They’ll take on 4-seed Grant, with a chance to head to the state championship.

Nathan Tilford passes 2,000 rushing yard mark

Tilford’s season comes to an end, but not before he reaching 2,000 rushing yards on the year. Once his final season stats come in, it looks like he will have averaged well over eight yards per carry this season.

He’ll be an immediate contributor next season.

Brian Casteel scores four times for Charter Oak

Much like Braxton Burmeister, this has been common for Brian Casteel this season. Charter Oak won and will play a loaded Sierra Canyon team for a chance to hit the state championship.

Braxton Burmeister is doing it

Really no need to explain this. La Jolla Country Day will face 1-seed Southwest EC, with the winner advancing to the state championship.

Rhedi Short’s season comes to an end

After a dominant season at Cathedral, Short’s high school football career has come to an end. He did have a fumble recovery.

Clayton Valley, Bryce Brand end their season

No stats were available for Bryce Brand, but Clayton Valley was shut out 28-0 by De La Salle. He had an impressive season at CV and his final year stats should be ridiculous when I get them.
