Arizona football recruiting: Wildcat commits still holding onto perfect records

As we approach the playoffs, many commits still haven’t lost

With the bye week, the Arizona Wildcats coaching staff went all across the country this weekend to check in on recruits and make some big strides with the finishing pieces of the class.

There wasn’t too much action for the Arizona commits, but here’s what I found on the Internet.

Rich Rodriguez and Charlie Ragle watching Jalen Harris

The staff is extremely high on Jalen Harris and it’s clear when you send the head man in charge out to visit him for the Thursday night showdown. I was also told that Harris ultimately bumped out 4-star linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia, however they would not turn him down.

Given Harris’ production as a junior, and now his performance through his senior year, it seems as if he is 4-star material for those enamored by rankings. As many have joked before, because Harris is already committed to Arizona, the chances of him actually rising that high are slim.

By rule, the two coaches, Ragle and Rodriguez, cannot be on the same sideline, so Ragle must have been on the Desert Vista sideline. Also, the coaches are not to have any communication.

On Friday, Rodriguez headed back to Tucson to watch his son Rhett at Catalina Foothills.

Jim Michalczik checking out Edgar Burrola

Arizona’s offensive line coach was at Desert Pines watching 3-star OL commit Edgar Burrola. 3-star athlete Tony Fields is also on Desert Pines’ squad. The DP Jaguars won 62-6 over Western.

Scott Young leads route

3-star safety commit Scott Young continues to make an impact on offense for Helix. Named as the No. 3 player in San Diego behind Braxton Burmeister and USC running back commit Stephen Carr, Young has been doing it all this season.

Bryce Wolma still undefeated

Greg Johnson still undefeated

Rhedi Short still undefeated

Undefeated Programs

Since 2015, Rich Rodriguez has been able to tap into some of the bigger high school programs in the nation. Now more than ever we’re starting to see those winning programs. The staff has pulled talent from the top three high school programs in the nation, and have a lot of guys from schools dominating their leagues.

Bishop Gorman, Cathedral, Charter Oak, IMG Academy, Mater Dei, and Saline are all undefeated. Clayton Valley, Higley, Sabino, and Sheldon all have one loss.

Brian Casteel

Not much on 3-star wide receiver Brian Casteel this week....just a touchdown to help advance his team an 8-0 record.

New Long Beach Poly Offers

Arizona offered two new 2019 Long Beach Poly prospects. Twin brothers Keon and Kejuan Markham both picked up offers. With Josh Brown already on board and Antonio Pierce heading that team, it’s clear that the staff is trying to make it a pipeline.

Josh Brown Athlete of the Week

Josh Brown has been a frequent name on these roundups. He’s been one of the top defensive players in his league and he’s going to be a nice piece for the Marcel Yates defense in a few years. He currently stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 240 pounds.

Next week Long Beach Poly will host IMG Academy and Arizona commit Elijah Watson.

Braxton Burmeister comeback falls short

On Thursday, Braxton Burmeister was named Player of the Week. On Friday, his team was sitting in a 27-0 deficit. La Jolla Country Day got within six points, scoring 21 unanswered, but fell short, suffering their first division loss of the season.
