Arizona basketball: Elliott Pitts will transfer from the University of Arizona
It is now official
For months, the writing has been on the wall that Elliott Pitts would not be a member of the Arizona Wildcats in the 2016-17 season.
That is now official thanks to this two sentence statement from Sean Miller:
"Elliott Pitts has informed the athletics department that he intends to transfer from the University of Arizona for the upcoming school year to continue his education. We wish him well in the future."
Seven games he played (two starts) in the 2015-16 season, averaging 21.3 minutes, 2.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
The first time Pitts didn't see the floor was after the Wildcats had traveled to Gonzaga. Against Fresno State, Pitts would sit on the bench in street clothes. He would continue to not dress for the majority of the rest of the season due to "personal reasons", which have been speculated and rumored throughout the Arizona community, but never confirmed by anyone with the basketball team or the athletics department.
Pitts would remain on the bench though, including road games, up until the game against ASU in Tucson. After that game, Miller announced that his junior guard had stepped away from the team for the rest of the year.
Coming out of De La Salle HS, Pitts was the 93rd overall recruit in his class. For his Arizona career, he finishes with 192 points, 120 of them coming on three-pointers. It will be interesting to see if and where he ends up to close out his college career, and hopefully put this whole situation behind him.
