Sonoran Hot Reads: Oregon beats Duke, advances to Elite Eight

Stayin' alive

The Pac-12 is still alive and kicking thanks to the Oregon Ducks. Our friends in Eugene had to get through Duke to not only reach their first Elite Eight since 2007, but also set a school record for wins in a season with 31, and they did both. None of Thursday's games were particularly close, which is super disappointing after what the first weekend gave us. But hey, the Pac-12 has lasted longer than the SEC!

- This wasn't the first time Duke has lost a Sweet Sixteen game in Anaheim on March 24th. Our own Matt Sheeley was at the Arizona/Duke game five years ago, and wrote this great rememberance of perhaps the greatest half in Arizona basketball history

- Alec gave some updates on a bunch of recruits including Terrance Ferguson, who happens to be in Tucson right now

Football

- The amount of money Arizona spends on the football program has resulted in the exact amount of success you would expect

- Kyle Bonagura takes a quick look at the direction of the program

- Arizona held its Pro Day on Thursday. For a bunch of videos, subscribe to our YouTube channel

- Scooby Wright had a much better Pro Day than the Combine, and he explains some of the things that went into that poor performance in Indy

Baseball

JC Cloney threw his first career complete game in a 6-1 win over UCLA

- The Pac-12 had a lot of interesting results on Thursday

Softball

- Danielle O'Toole matched Cloney by allowing just one run of her own against Utah

Other sports

- Men's golf did not do so hot in the first round of their tournament

- Men's swimming and diving is in 16th at the NCAA Championships thanks in large part to a second place finish by Rafael Quintero on the 1M board

- Beach volleyball will be hosting a bunch of matches this weekend

- Women's tennis took down UAB 4-2

Tucson news

- Free adoptions at Pima Animal Care Center for the next week or so
