Arizona football recruiting: Top corner of 2017 Darnay Holmes heading to Tucson for unofficial visit
The Arizona Wildcats are a legitimate contender for the No. 6 overall recruit in the class of 2017
The Arizona Wildcats coaching staff has been in pursuit of the No. 1 ranked corner in the nation, Darnay Holmes, who is the brother of redshirt freshman receiver Darick Holmes. Darnay ranks No. 6 in the nation regardless of position; a consensus five-star prospect. Arizona State, Arizona, Nebraska, Stanford and UCLA seem to be the favorites.
Darnay Holmes will be coming to Tucson this weekend.
"We're going to Arizona. We leave on Friday morning and we have a group of guys coming up there. A great group of buddies coming with me so we'll have a lot of fun," Holmes said when asked about his upcoming visit. "Going to see my brother compete, my best friend Isaiah [Hayes] and then go see [Khalil] Tate."
Holmes hails from Calabasas High School, the same school as Isaiah Hayes.
He is on track to graduate early from Calabasas High School, meaning he will be able to join whatever team he commits to in January for the spring semester, and most importantly spring practice. He plans to commit to his future school on June 23rd, his birthday.
The 247 Crystal Ball has Stanford as the heavy favorite, but the way things seem now, I think the Nebraska Cornhuskers are the leaders, followed by Arizona and then Stanford. There are currently eight predictions for Holmes, with six going towards Stanford, but only one comes after July of 2015.
Arizona already landed one of the biggest fish in the pond in Greg Johnson, with the new coaching changes quickly changing the recruiting culture. Johnson is the No. 4 athlete in the nation and No. 73 regardless of position. He will likely get a chance to start immediately at corner next season. Add a commitment from Darnay Holmes, which is very possible, and that gives you the best 2017 cornerback tandem in the nation.
