Sonoran Hot Reads: Is Trevor Hoffman a Hall of Famer?

The whole letting closers in the Hall of Fame debate will get interesting this year

When the Baseball Hall of Fame voting comes around for the 2016 class, there may be an Arizona alum being enshrined for the first time in the form of former San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman. But the Baseball HOF has not been particularly nice to relief pitchers. This very insightful article by David Schoenfield takes a look at Hoffman's numbers compared to the limited number of relievers currently in the Hall of Fame, and how they were used differently from the former Wildcat. There are certainly numbers and arguments to be made on both sides, but there should still be a place for the guy with the second-most saves in the history of the game, especially when Mariano Rivera seems like such a lock to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
