Bowl Projections: Arizona slipping out of bowl contention
Arizona needs one win in two weeks to become bowl eligible for Rich Rod's 4th straight year in Tucson.
The Arizona Wildcats have two weeks to win one more game. No. 10 Utah comes to town this weekend, and after Arizona's performance vs. USC, this situation seems much better than it did before.
ESPN's Pac-12 Blogs have now gone two weeks without bowl projections, but they last had Arizona as an at-large bid. While the bowl projections are starting to align a little more, Arizona is starting to get dropped from bowl contention.
CBS Sports no longer has Arizona listed in a bowl game, and Campus Insiders didn't have Arizona going bowling either.
Site | Bowl | Opponent | Location | Date |
SB Nation | Cactus | West Virginia | Phoenix, AZ | January 2nd |
CBS Sports | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
Bleacher Report | Cactus | Kansas State | Phoenix, AZ | January 2nd |
McMurphy (ESPN) | Liberty | Auburn | Memphis, TN | January 2nd |
Schlabach (ESPN) | Cactus | Utah State | Phoenix, AZ | January 2nd |
Sporting News | Poinsettia | Utah State | San Diego, CA | December 23rd |
As of now, with maybe just one more win, it seems as if Arizona is heading to the Cactus Bowl. If Arizona fails to win either of the next two games, maybe that Arizona Bowl here in Tucson. Arizona seems to be a very real possibility for that even if they finish 5-7. A 5-7 Arizona team will certainly draw more revenue for the bowl rather than a 6-6 Florida International or 7-5 Nevada.
That Liberty Bowl would be an awfully tough game, as Auburn -- who is loaded with some of the best recruits in the country -- seem to be a better team than their record indicates.
