Arizona football: Scooby Wright named the nation's second best player

From two-star to number two

Remember that time when Scooby Wright III had a two by his name? Well, it was when he was being recruited, and the whole "Two-Star Scoob" phenomenon.

He made need something new now as ESPN ranks him as the nation's second-best player in all of college football.

Ohio State's Joey Bosa takes the top spot, and Wright is tied with another Buckeye, running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Here is ESPN's blurb on what makes Scooby so great:

The winner of almost every major defensive award last season, Wright redefined the middle linebacker position by tallying huge sack and tackles for loss numbers, which are usually reserved for outside linebackers and edge rushers. Besides leading the nation with 163 total stops (11.6 per game), he also notched 14 solo sacks and led the country with 29 tackles for a loss while helping Arizona to the Pac-12 South title and a spot in the Fiesta Bowl. He also showed his nose for the ball by leading the league with six fumbles recovered.

It has to be weird for Scooby to have such high expectations, given that he didn't really have any throughout his football career, even leading up to last year.

But here we are.

"We have some high goals for our team, and we're going to try to achieve those," Wright said on Tuesday. "I'm just going to go out there and play my game."

Scooby does what Scooby do.
