Arizona football recruiting: Long Beach City College defensive end Josh Allen set to visit July 18th

Arizona on the brink of landing some big time size on the defensive line

Back on May 29th, Arizona offered defensive end Josh "JJ" Allen, freshman out of Long Beach City College. On Twitter, he announced yesterday that he will be making a trip to Tucson on July 18th for an official visit.

I got a chance to talk to JJ about Arizona and his recruiting process.

Allen holds offers to Arizona State, Boise State, Louisville, and Washington State, among others, and will likely be receiving more attention as he enters his sophomore season. But as of now, Arizona is the leader for the 6-4 260lb defensive end.

"Arizona is my number one", JJ said. "Just a great program, good school, winning the Pac-12 South", when asked what he likes about Arizona. He played in a 3-3-5 defense back at West High School (Torrance, CA) and currently plays in a 4-3 defense at LBCC. At Arizona, he can come back to a three-man front and thrive in the system under Jeff Casteel.

He's looking forward to a good atmosphere and hanging out with the coaches during his visit. Many recruits, including incoming freshman Orlando Bradford and 2016 target Michael Eletise have already said Arizona has some of the most supportive coaches around.

Arizona also happens to be recruiting his teammate at Long Beach City College, London Iakopo. According to Allen, the two have talked about playing at Arizona together.

JJ played in all 11 games as a freshman and was the third-leading tackler for the Vikings, with 58 total. He added seven sacks for a loss of 59 yards and tallied 17 tackles for loss for a total of 100 yards lost, also forcing a fumble and recovering three on the season.

Allen would be a huge asset for the defense. Arizona has been lacking size on the defensive front for quite some time, and that can all change with a commitment from Allen. He said there is currently no timetable for his decision, but would like to commit soon.

His freshman year highlights are below.
