Arizona targets Marvin Bagley and Alex Barcello capture state championship

Corona del Sol High School can become a major recruiting pipeline for Arizona

In a 57-32 rout, the Corona del Sol Aztecs (Tempe, AZ) won their fourth-straight state championship at Gila River Arena on Monday night over the Desert Vista Thunder (Phoenix, AZ). The Aztecs finished the season 33-1 and ranked 7th in the nation according to MaxPreps. CDS is led by 6-11 freshman Marvin Bagley and 6-2 sophomore Alex Barcello, both of which hold offers to The University of Arizona.

Bagley is ranked by many as the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2018. He's a man among boys, holding offers to UConn, DePaul and UCLA, among others. He was having his way; attacking the rim, protecting the paint and running in transition. Bagley finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, five steals and three assists. He will turn 16 years old on March 14th.

The first of many championships for Marvin Bagley, whether it may be in high school or college. With back-to-back Pac-12 Championships for Sean Miller's squad, Arizona seems like a perfect place for Bagley to land.

Barcello is ranked as 2017's No. 1 recruit in the state of Arizona, No. 14 point guard in the nation and No. 40 overall. His offer list also includes Virginia, Creighton and New Mexico among others. Now, this comparison might be a little too much, but Barcello's style of play is eerily similar to T.J. McConnell's: a pass-first point guard with great vision who initiates the offense. He doesn't need to score to be successful, as he'll find the open guy running in the lane. Barcello finished the first half with eight points and a couple of assists while leading the fast break.

Mike Bibby, Jason Gardner, T.J. McConnell, Steve Kerr, Jerryd Bayless, Gilbert Arenas; this list of great point guards goes on and on for Arizona. It only makes sense to stay close to home, help recruit Bagley for a year, and team up to win championships, just like the old days.
