MoviePass and AMC to Offer Subscribers a Movie a Day

empty comfortable red seats...

From music to movies, traditional media companies are finding it more and more difficult to keep up with the always-on streaming options that online counterparts like Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify offer audiences. AMC and MoviePass are teaming up to offer an experimental program that will allow members to see up to one film a day for one flat monthly fee, starting with Boston and Denver. The MoviePass Premium subscription, which costs $45, covers any sort of movie, even pricy 3D and IMAX outings, while the standard MoviePass goes for $35 a pop.

The program’s success hinges on how many people buy a membership versus how many of those subscribers actually take full advantage of it. Sort of like those DVDs from Netflix that have been sitting next to your TV for the past three months, right? Still, if MoviePass rolls out to cities like NYC, where the average ticket for a regular movie can cost nearly $15 with fees, a subscription is practically a no-brainer.
