Mark Hamill to Revive Classic 'The Flash' Villain Trickster for CW Series

In a clever bit of nostalgic casting, Mark Hamill is set to reprise a classic villainous role for the new iteration of “The Flash,” currently airing on The CW.



HitFix reports that Hamill will once again play James Jesse, a.k.a. The Trickster, the villain he also portrayed in the 1990s CBS “Flash” series. The CW version has paid homage to that earlier adaptation before, casting John Wesley Shipp — who played the titular character in the ’90s — as Grant Gustin’s father this time around.



The official character description, per HitFix:

"Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90’s ‘Flash’ series. In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original ‘Flash’ on the CBS version.”

Hamill’s casting “was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told HitFix. “Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!”



Hamill will make his debut in this season’s 17th episode, set to air sometime in early 2015.
