Chris Pratt Surprises Kids at 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Screening, Steals Our Hearts (VIDEO)
Chris Pratt made a surprise appearance at a special advance screening of “Guardians of the Galaxy" Monday night in New York City, where he gave 250 kids from local charities the thrill of their lives by answering questions, doling out high fives, and taking selfies with every last person in the crowd.
The screening, sponsored by Disney and the New York Daily News for children and their families affiliated with two NYC-based charities, had just wrapped up when an announcement was made that Star-Lord himself was in the building, and Pratt emerged to gasps, shrieks, and wild applause as the kids looked on in disbelief and utter joy. The actor made a short speech about how he could relate to a difficult childhood, and also engaged in a Q&A session about his movie training regimen and favorite “Guardians” scene.
“I think you’re all very awesome,” Pratt told the crowd. ” … Take it from a kid who grew up having no money, struggling hard to get by. Just know that if you stick to your path and you believe in yourself and be courageous enough to be yourself, you can grow up and you can be your own Star-Lord.”
“This was a once in a life chance for me,” one 11-year-old boy at the event told the Daily News. An 18-year-old aspiring actress at the screening told the News that meeting “a real (Hollywood) actor who’s so humble and kind … was really inspiring.”
Interactions like those are what give meaning to Pratt’s newfound global fame, the actor said, adding that they were the most rewarding part of the “Guardians” experience.
“That was really fun, this is what is all about,” Pratt told the News. “I get impatient sometimes being on a promotional tour all the time, but something like this I would sit here as long as it took to take a picture with every one of those guys. Tonight was really special to me.”
