'Mockingjay' Crushes Weak Newcomers on Black Friday
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 ruled the Black Friday box office, while the two newcomers put up disappointing numbers. The third installment in the Hunger Games franchise added $24.1 million, which is off 56 percent from opening day. That’s about on par with Catching Fire’s drop at the same point, which is a positive sign for the movie’s long-term prospects. To date, Mockingjay has earned $192.7 million, and will pass $200 million on Saturday.Penguins of Madagascar took in $10.5 mill…

The 'Star Wars: Force Awakens' Trailer Is Here - And It Is Amazing!
Well, after some false starts and somewhat convincing fakes, the trailer for J.J. Abrams astronomically anticipated “Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens” trailer is here. And it’s totally amazing.
The trailer is only 88 seconds long, but it’s packed full of “Star Wars”-y goodness: John Boyega as a storm-trooper, rebel X-wings delicately skimming some unknown body of water, new “chrome troopers,” a Sith lord whose red lightsaber emits little red flames on either side of the blade, a rolling droid, Daisy Ridley on some kind of floating skiff not unlike the speeders in “Return of the Jedi.” Oh, and an appearance from a little spaceship called the Millennium Falcon.
Quite frankly if this was the only footage of the film that we got to see before next Christmas (something of a systematic improbability given Disney’s marketing engine and our own curiosity), we’d be happy.
“Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens” opens on December 18th, 2015.

'Horrible Bosses 2' Review: Why the Comedy Sequel Isn't As Horrible As You Might Think
The first “Horrible Bosses" landed as a solid hard-R hit back in 2011, thanks to audiences falling for Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day as a lovably bumbling trio of would-be criminals. Well, that, and the appeal of watching Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Aniston saying dirty words.
So Nick (Bateman), Kurt (Sudeikis) and Dale (Day) are back again for “Horrible Bosses 2,” having ditched the nine-to-five to start their own business. But even though they’re their own horrible bosses now, they’re still having problems with upper-management types, in the form of the father/son team of potential investors Bert and Rex Hanson, played by Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine.
Of course, comedy sequels haven’t always had the best track record; it’s a delicate balance recapturing what worked in the first film without just delivering the same movie with new punchlines. (See: “The Hangover Part II.”) Not to mention, three idiots attempting to commit major felonies doesn’t exactly scream “franchise potential.” But turns out, “Horrible Bosses 2” isn’t as horrible as it might sound (or, maybe more accurately, as it could’ve been). Here’s a few reasons why the foul-mouthed sequel seemingly shouldn’t work — even though it mostly does.
Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey are back, just because.
The first rule for any comedy sequel is to get the gang back together — even when it doesn’t make any sense — so most of the cast (who’s still alive) from the first “Horrible Bosses” is back for Round 2, from Aniston and Spacey to Jamie Foxx reprising his role as the gang’s criminal consultant Motherf***er Jones. Some of these shoehorned cameos make more sense than others; the three ostensibly visit Spacey’s character in jail for “advice,” which basically amounts to verbal abuse and an excuse to check out his new diamond earring. Hilarious! Meanwhile, working Aniston’s sexual predator/dentist back into the story takes some pretty admirable plot gymnastics. Still, if and when “Horrible Bosses 2” works, it’s because of the central trio of Bateman, Sudeikis and Day, whose comedy strengths mesh just as well the second time around.
They put an action hero up against three professional comedians.
Anyone who’s sat through “This Means War” knows that casting Chris Pine isn’t exactly a surefire recipe for comedy gold. But the current Captain Kirk turns in a surprisingly solid performance as the spoiled son of Waltz’s double-crossing businessman. When the three hapless businessmen-turned-hapless criminals decide to kidnap Rex to get revenge on his father, Pine’s charms and can-do attitude towards the harebrained scheme keeps both the guys and the movie going long after both should’ve known better. Waltz may seem like the more obvious ringer here, but it’s Pine who actually manages to steal the most scenes.
It’s from the director of “That’s My Boy.”
To be fair, it’s not like the first “Horrible Bosses” was a flawless comic masterpiece, and you can easily engage in the same kind of resume cherry-picking with that movie’s director Seth Gordon. But even so, replacing Gordon with the director of “That’s My Boy” and the co-writers of “Dumb and Dumber To" doesn’t exactly inspire a ton of confidence. And a lot of "Horrible Bosses 2" feels frustratingly lazy, over-reliant on slick montages set to Top 40 hits to move the plot along, making the movie seem oddly dated at times. Or to put it another way, Katy Perry's “Roar” stars as a major recurring gag. And while Sean Anders seems to have a better handle on the action scenes and car chases than his predecessor, once again, this would-be franchise is at its best in the downbeats, when the three leads are engaging in some semi-improvised bickering, not pulling off second-rate heists.
It ends with outtakes over the end credits.
Seriously, this is rarely ever a good sign for a comedy’s prospects. At best, it’s a lazy move that signals to moviegoers that even if you didn’t have a good time watching this, not to worry, because everyone had a blast making it. And sure, watching funny people flub lines helps ensure that audiences leave the theatre smiling, in case they weren’t before the credits started rolling. But it’s a far cry from “22 Jump Street" ending on a gloriously meta high note.
It’s basically the first movie all over again.
This isn’t exactly a big surprise: even the film’s poster boasts “New crime, same tools” — which might as well be trumpeting “New jokes, same movie.” Although to the filmmakers’ credit, kidnapping does lend itself a little better to comedy than attempted triple homicide. That said, “Horrible Bosses 2” isn’t quite a Mad Libs recreation of the first movie beat for beat, and not every sequel has to be a winking, ultra-meta acknowledgement of its sequel-dom like the more recent “22 Jump Street.”
Instead, it features slight variations on what worked best the last time, which means really, it’s all just an excuse to watch three funny comedians riff in the face of increasingly absurd situations. “Horrible Bosses 2” may not be an upgrade from the first film, but by generating some legitimate laughs despite a few rough patches, it turns out a lot like Nick, Kurt and Dale’s criminal enterprises: much better than things could’ve otherwise ended up.
"Horrible Bosses 2" is now playing in theatres.

10 Christmas Movies That Haven't Aged Well
In Charles Dickens’s immortal “A Christmas Carol,” Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three ghosts: the ghost of Christmas present, the ghost of Christmas past, and the ghost of Christmas future. When it comes to Christmas movies, there are plenty of titles that you’ve watched in the past, a few that you watch now, and even less that you’d watch in the future. Somehow, this analogy made more sense before I downed several jumbo-sized cartons of egg-nog.
What we’re trying to say is that there are Christmas classics, Christmas movies that you maybe watch if it’s on television but don’t think about, and then there are Christmas movies that have just aged horribly. The very notion of a Christmas movie is one that has an air of timelessness, since you want to be able to watch those movies once every year (tis the season); we’ve decided to choose some of the ones that are painfully showing their age. And no amount of anniversary re-releases or Blu-ray reissues is going to change that fact. These have aged poorly. And with good reason. (If you’re looking for timeless holiday movies, here are the best Christmas movies ever made.)

Best of Late Night TV: Evangeline Lilly's Odd Costume, Pregnant Emily Blunt Saved Meryl Streep's Life (VIDEO)
Evangeline Lilly showed up on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in this odd Mad Hatter circus type outfit. As Jimmy asked, “What the hell are you wearing?” It’s a costume tied to her “Squickerwonkers” children’s book. She wrote this story when she was 14. Evangeline is so bubbly and fun but, man, she is unrecognizable as Kate from “Lost” or Tauriel from “The Hobbit.” Guess that’s an actress for you! Jimmy said Evangeline had previously mentioned retiring from acting, and she did retire, but Peter Jackson called her out of retirement for “The Hobbit.” (Don’t worry, she does know that Tauriel was not actually in the book, that part is just a little confusing in the context of the chat.) She’ll also be in “Ant-Man,” which she’s doing for the great excuse that “Paul Rudd's playing the lead.”
Chris Pine was also on JKL, talking about singing in “Into the Woods" with Meryl Streep. He was so nervous to sing in front of her, but he said she’s a lovely person and she’s aware of her effect on a room. She’s “Meryl effing Streep”! She was the first one to screw up in rehearsals which broke the ice for everyone. Did she screw up on purpose? That’s the theory. Chris also talked about going to New Zealand for a film and fly fishing with his dad.
It was a big night for talking about Meryl Streep, since Emily Blunt did the same thing with David Letterman. Emily said Meryl is so amazing it’s annoying. You could say the same about Emily, though. Charming, intelligent, funny, talented, gorgeous… They were together in “The Devil Wears Prada" and again in "Into the Woods." Emily saved Meryl’s life, so now she thinks Meryl owes her a role reversal. (Meryl’s response: "Dream on.") But Emily did help Meryl on set when they were rehearsing a scene. It happened in slow motion. Meryl’s foot got caught in her cape and everyone watched her start to tumble head-first into the concrete floor. The men froze but "the pregnant woman caught her." Go Emily! Not quite a life-saving story, as billed on the show, but still good. Em also talked about her daughter Hazel; she found out she was pregnant the same week she got the job in “Into the Woods.” Weirdly enough, Wu-Tang Clan was also on David Letterman’s show. Here’s “Ruckus in B Minor”: Lorde and her amazing hair were on “The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon Tuesday night, talking about Taylor Swift and “The Hunger Games” soundtrack. Jimmy and Lorde agreed that Taylor is unexpectedly funny, with a sharp dry humor. Lorde shared a story of how some guy thought Lorde was Taylor’s manager so, without missing a beat, Taylor said yep, and so Lorde was the manager for the night.
Bill O’Reilly was also on “The Tonight Show,” telling Jimmy there’s no politics at his dinner table on Thanksgiving. He talked about the O’Reilly family traditions growing up, and how kids today are too picky about their food. Jimmy over-laughs sometimes. OK, maybe all the time. Jimmy also shared another round of “Screengrabs.” It’s pretty funny, even if it’s dragged out. Stay for the end to see Jimmy’s Russian evil twin. Aubrey Plaza was on “Late Night” with Seth Meyers, wearing a sparkly cat ear headband and talking about how she likes to drum up negative backlash for herself — like when she retweeted only negative responses to the “Grumpy Cat” trailer from “haters” and made it seem like she had to defend the movie. She explains. Jason Sudeikis was also on “Late Night” and you can watch him in this special Second Chance Theatre presentation of “Juggling Flyer”:

Best of Late Night TV: Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow's 'Celebrity Curse Off,' Tim Allen's Turkey Scooter Race (VIDEO)
Jennifer Aniston was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday night to promote the new “Horrible Bosses" movie, but she also took some time for a "Friends" reunion with Lisa Kudrow via the foul-mouthed game, “Celebrity Curse Off.” Lisa’s face is great when she’s cursing. So much intensity! It’s kind of sweet that they both get upset about the b-word, considering what they’re OK with saying.
In her sit-down interview, Jen - who looked amazing - talked about the press tour for “Horrible Bosses 2,” which sounds fun but also pretty tiring. She’s afraid of flying, so she hasn’t been to a lot of beautiful places in the world because she’s too scared to fly. Jen also shared an interesting flight attendant story.
Ken Jeong was also on JKL, and he talked about bringing his daughter to see his new movie, “Penguins of Madagascar,” to get a child’s perspective. So she came out to talk about the movie and steal all the attention. Ken also told Jimmy his wife, a physician, is on call on Thanksgiving, so they’re staying local. Did you know he practiced medicine while starting his comedy career? Ken also talked about working with David Hasselhoff. Gotta love The Hoff.
Tim Allen was on “The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon, and - to celebrate Thanksgiving - they had a Turkey Scooter Race through the studio. They wore helmets for the race because, as Jimmy noted, "safety is sexy." Dang right. Obviously we all need scooters like this, because they are amazing. Please, Santa?
Seth Rogen was on “Late Show" with David Letterman, and it turns out he and his wife are fans of bad reality TV shows, like the one with “child chefs,” and he couldn’t stop weeping when he was watching these kids trying so hard. “Naked and Afraid” is another show he likes, so he went on with James Franco. Dave just shakes his head through it all.
Amy Sedaris was also on Letterman’s show, and they talked about whether Dave should get a second dog to join his 2-month-old dog, Sully. Amy has rabbits, so they discussed pet-rearing.
The one-and-only William Shatner was on “The Late Late Show” with Craig Ferguson, and Shatner gave advice on frying turkeys. It’s a dangerous business. He’s almost burned his house down several times. Craig laughed about people dying from trying to fry turkeys but he insisted he was just “sneezing inside.”
John Goodman was on “Late Night” with Seth Meyers and they talked about old SNL sketches, and one with Will Ferrell that never aired.
“The Daily Show's” Aasif Mandvi was also on Seth’s show, talking about the odd questions and roles he got when he started acting.
